Elon Musk shares Web3 meme; is Vitalik the ‘bear’ of the joke?

It was not that long ago that Cryptocurrencies started to turn heads and acquire executives from tech giants like Google, Facebook, and Amazon. Now the onset of web3 buzz, many from the mainstream tech agencies were hopping ships to experience the new world. However, this new-age tech is something the Tesla co-founder and CEO, Elon Musk was not very fond of.

Musk took his favorite social media Twitter to once again share his opinion and be a part of the meme community as he shared,

While it was clearly a jab at web3 and the Ethereum co-founder, the meme also showed the three generations of the internet. The first picture is of the co-founders of Google, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Meanwhile, the second picture is a snippet from the movie “Social Network” wherein David Fincher’s

Crypto Youtuber Matt Wallace also jumped in with another corny meme,

While the meme coin proponent lived up to his meme-lover image, others were having a field day sharing different Vitalik Buterin faux passes.

Web3: Boogeyman or the next-gen tech?

While many in the field are excited to find out more about the next generation of the internet, there were others like Elon Musk who criticized it. Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter argued about it being centralized and controlled by a handful of venture capitalists.

Meanwhile, Musk had previously called it a mere “marketing buzzword” than a reality.

However, Ryan Wyatt an ex-YouTube executive who moved to lead a new gaming studio from Polygon stated that this was an early stage of blockchain developments and was “exciting.”

He stated in a recent interview,

“When I started at YouTube Gaming almost eight years ago, I was the first person there. We didn’t have a team. People were really starting to show interest in gaming video.”

He added that,

“I look at this opportunity very much the same way.”

Even the former head of Novi, David Marcus has been singing praises of Web3, stating feeling “connected to a community of builders like the Crypto/Web3 one.”

While many top executives from tech giants were moving on to Web3, will Musk’s and Dorsey’s criticism be short-lived? Only the future of Web3 can clarify who is right in judging this novice tech.
